Automating an existing vertically tracked canopy type
door with a "Bow Arm" or "Canopy Arm" adaptorThe canopy door adaptor or "bow-arm" was designed to enable a conventional horizontal boom type electric door operator to lift a vertically tracked "canopy" door by converting some of motor's horizontal force into a vertical force to raise and lower the door on its vertical tracks
The device tends to be troublesome as it puts undue strain on the door support mechanism and motor resulting in premature failure of the installation. The device also results in reduced headroom as it protrudes approximately 6" - 8" from the underside of the open door
Safety Issues
Because a door fitted with a canopy door adaptor requires a very high level of motor force in order to move the door when near the top of the tracks, the motor's safety-stop device has to be set to allow dangerously high levels of force, resulting in risk of injury if a child or pet becomes trapped under the moving door. Amourelle Ltd do not supply canopy door adaptors because doors fitted with this device are unlikely to meet EEC Machinery Directive Safety Regulations for power operated garage doors to which all our installations must comply.
